POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – With the first three games out of the way, the Marist men’s lacrosse team (1-2, 0-0 MAAC) will look to get back to its winning ways as it hosts Marquette (1-2, 0-0 Big East) in its home opener on Saturday, Mar. 1. Face-off is slated for 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Red Foxes opened their season with a close win over Stony Brook (1-2, 0-0 America East), followed by two tough losses in the Frontier Airlines Face-off Classic against Air Force (2-2, 0-0 MWC) and No. 5/6 Denver (3-1, 0-0 Big East). Against Denver, the Red Foxes were led by juniors Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.), and Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) who had three goals, and two goals, respectively. Sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) also contributed two goals and an assist in the Red Foxes’ defeat. Radin posted a career-high five goals against Air Force and was named to the Frontier Airlines Face-off Classic All-Tournament team.
The Golden Eagles of Marquette (1-2, 0-0 Big East) are trying to get back to .500 on the season after losing to No. 17 Ohio State earlier this week, 11-7. Midfielder Kyle Whitlow scored three of Marquette’s seven goals. This is the first meeting between the two teams. Both Marquette and Marist have kicked off their seasons on the road, starting 1-2 overall. This will be Marist’s first home game of the year while Marquette won’t play home until Mar. 22.
Following this matchup, the Red Foxes stay home to host Towson on Friday, Mar. 7. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
