Women’s Lacrosse Kicks Off Five-Game Road Stint In California
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – After a tough loss at home last weekend against the University of Vermont (2-0, 0-0 America East), the Marist women’s lacrosse team (1-1, 0-0 MAAC) will look to get back above .500 as it kicks off its five-game road stint in Los Angeles, Calif. The Red Foxes take on USC on Friday, Feb. 28 and Fresno State on Sunday, Mar. 2 in Los Angeles, Calif.
In their 20-13 loss to the Catamounts, the Red Foxes were led by sophomore Kara McHugh (Madison, Conn.), who netted four goals and two assists. Big numbers were also put up by sophomore Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.) who netted three goals and junior Kirsten Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) who posted two goals and one assist for Marist.
Up next for Marist is the Women of Troy. Last season, which was also the team’s first under head coach Lindsey Munday, USC finished fourth in the conference, which earned them a bid to the MPSF semifinals.
On Sunday, the Red Foxes will stay in Los Angeles to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1 MWC). With a win against Monmouth and losses against Wagner and No. 18 Denver, Fresno State will be looking to get back in the win column against Marist.
Friday’s game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. EST/ 3 p.m. PST, while Sunday’s game is set for 4 p.m. EST/ 1 p.m. PST.
Following the weekend, Marist returns to the east coast to face Hofstra on Friday, Mar. 7 in Hempstead, N.Y. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
