RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Marist women’s basketball team (21-6, 15-2 MAAC) defeated Manhattan (8-18, 7-10 MAAC) on Sunday, 81-54. With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 22-6 overall and 16-2 in the MAAC. Head coach Brian Giorgis is now just one win away from his 300th career win.

Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) posted her fourth career double-double this season with 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. O’Connor also led Marist with two steals and two blocks. Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) had a game-high 16 points and matched a career-high seven rebounds. Senior Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) had 11 points and a team-high five assists. Senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and grabbed seven boards while sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) added an additional 11 points.

Manhattan’s Monica Roeder opened up the game with a long three, which was matched by Dulin as the Red Foxes quickly took over. The Jaspers trailed the Red Foxes by just seven at the 12:32 mark. Marist posted an 11-1 run over the following four minutes to lead Manhattan 26-9. Back-to-back baskets by the Jaspers pulled Manhattan within 12 at the seven minute mark. Layup’s by Dulin and freshman Katharine Fogarty (Peterborough, N.H.) increased the Red Fox lead to 16 at the 5:47 mark. The teams scored evenly to close the half, 12-1l advantage Manhattan, but Marist led 41-26 at the half.

The Red Foxes opened up the half on a 19-6 run to take a 60-33 lead at the 13:24 mark. The teams shot basket-for-basket over the following 10 minutes but Marist still held a 72-48 lead over the Jaspers at the 4:32 mark. Nine more points by the Red Foxes and six from Manhattan would be all as Marist defeated the Jaspers 81-54.

Marist had 19 assists, 11 turnovers, and 45 rebounds. The Red Foxes forced nine Jasper turnovers and held Manhattan to just 22 rebounds.

The Red Foxes return to action for their last home game of 2014 on Friday, Feb. 28 as they host Monmouth. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at McCann Arena. Friday’s game is also senior night.
