LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Backed by a season-high 19 points by senior Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) the Marist women’s basketball team (21-6, 15-2 MAAC) defeated Rider (13-14, 9-9 MAAC). With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 21-6 overall and 15-2 in conference play.

Dulin contributed an additional five assists and matched a team-high two steals. Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) was just one rebound shy of a double-double, posting 16 points, nine boards, and a game-high six assists. Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) recorded 14 points and six boards. Freshman Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) had seven points of the bench with three assists. Senior Leanne Ockenden added an additional nine points for Marist.

The Red Foxes shot 51.8 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three point range, hitting 10 three-pointers. Marist forced 16 Broncs’ turnovers and grabbed eight steals and 40 rebounds.

Marist opened up the game on a strong 8-2 run to lead by six at the 17:32 mark. Rider scored the next four points to pull within two with 16:14 left to play. The Red Foxes went up by six again, 14-8, at the 12:58 mark then led by just two at the 11:46 mark at the Broncs chipped away at the Marist lead. A free-throw by O’Connor followed by a Lai layup gave Marist a five point lead with 10:37 to play in the first half.

O’Connor hit three consecutive threes followed by a three by Coffey to give Marist a 29-14 lead with 8:08 to go. Rider’s Korneliha Valiuskyte hit a three but Dulin responded with yet another basket from beyond the arc to give the Red Foxes a 15 point lead over the Broncs at the 6:40 mark. The Red Foxes closed the half on a 17-7 lead to keep a 49-25 advantage over Rider at the half. Marist hit seven threes in the first half.

The Red Foxes opened the second half on a 9-0 run, leading 57-27 at the 17:22 mark. A basket for Rider by MyNeshia McKenzie followed by two made free-throws by Shereen Lightbourne made it 57-31 in favor of Marist with 16:26 to go. The Red Foxes propelled ahead with a 13-4 run to lead 70-35 at the 8:44 mark.

The Broncs outscored Marist 7-2 over the following two minutes to cut the Red Fox lead to 30 with 6:56 left to play. Three scoreless minutes on the court was ended by a jumper by freshman Katharine Fogarty (Peterboroughm N.H.) at the 3:53 mark to give Marist a 74-42 lead. Rider scored nine points to Marist’s five to close the half but it was to no avail as the Red Foxes defeated the Broncs, 79-51.

Marist returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 23 at Manhattan, Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in Riverdale, N.Y. The Red Foxes return home for its last home game of the year and senior night on Friday, Feb. 28 against Monmouth. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Tickets available on GoRedFoxes.com
