POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s lacrosse team (1-0, 0-0 MAAC) will travel to Denver, Colo. to take on both Denver (1-1, 0-0 Big East) and Air Force (1-1, 0-0 ECAC) in back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday as part of the Frontier Airlines Face-off Classic.
The Red Foxes are headed to Denver following a 13-12 win versus Stony Brook (0-1, 0-0 America East) in their season opener. Junior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) scored a career-high seven goals in the victory. Joka was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Seawolves. Junior Drew Nesmith (Monclair, N.J.) matched a career-high four goals. Junior Patrick Eaker (Redding, Conn.) scored one goal while sophomore Dominic Montemurro (Kings Park, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal. Freshman J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) led Marist with four assists and sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) contributed one.
The Red Foxes will face Denver on Saturday, Feb. 22nd in the first of two games on slate for the Red Foxes as part of the Frontier Airlines Face-Off Classic. The Pioneers are currently ranked 6th in the Warrior Men's Division I Media Poll. Denver is 1-1 with its only loss coming against the defending national champion, the Duke Blue Devils. The Pioneers lost a 14-10 matchup against the defending championships. Freshman Zach Miller scored four goals for Denver while junior Wesley Berg netted his second hat trick of the season. Marist will take on Denver on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (EST).
Marist men’s lacrosse will then face-off against Air Force, who is coming off a 15-6 win over Furman. The Falcons were led by senior captain Erik Smith, who tallied four goals in the game, including three in the opening period. Kyle Cassady, Marcus Walker, and Mike Crampton each recorded two goals and helped build a strong lead which the Falcons kept for the remainder of the game. Following the weekend games, Marist has its 2014 home opener on Saturday, March 1 against Marquette. Face-off is set for 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
