JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Marist women’s basketball team (19-6, 13-2 MAAC) defeated Saint Peter’s (3-21, 2-11 MAAC) on Tuesday evening, 64-49. With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 19-6 overall and move to 13-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Redshirt junior Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led Marist with a career and game-high 20 points.

Senior Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) was the only other Red Fox in double-digits with 10 points and four boards. Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored eight points and led Marist with three steals. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) contributed an additional seven points and senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) had four rebounds.

The Red Foxes opened up the game on a 10-3 run, and led by seven at the 16:17 mark. Saint Peter’s chipped away at the lead, going on a 6-2 run to cut Marist’s lead to three with 12:54 to play. However, the Red Foxes would outscore the Peacocks 25-6 over the rest of the first half to lead 37-15 heading into the locker room. Jarosz hadnine points in the first half to lead her team. Blais posted seven points, followed by O’Connor with six.

Saint Peter's opened the second half on an 11-6 run over a span of 7:18 to cut its deficit to 43-26 with 12:42 to play in the second half. Marist scored the next seven points, split by one Peacock jumper by Antonia Smith, to lead 50-28 at the 8:34 mark. The Peacocks did their best to come back and outscored Marist 13-8, to trail by a 58-41 score at the 4:03 mark. Eight points by Saint Peter’s topped Marist’s six to close the half but it was no to avail as the Red Foxes defeated the Peacocks, 64-49.

Marist out-rebounded Saint Peter's 28-24 and forced 19 Peacock turnovers. The Red Foxes also notched 11 steals and 12 assists against Saint Peter's while the Peacocks had just one steal and seven assists. 

Marist returns home on Friday, Feb. 14 to face Quinnipiac in the first game of a doubleheader in Poughkeepsie. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at McCann Arena, and the contest will be televised by ESPNU. Tickets are available on GoRedFoxes.com
