LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Marist women’s basketball team (18-5, 12-1 MAAC) defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Siena on Thursday, 78-39. With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 12-1 in conference play and 18-5 overall. Marist was led by sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) with a game-high 17 points and two steals. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) contributed 13 points. Seniors Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded 10 points each. O’Connor had a game-high eight rebounds and Ockenden grabbed seven boards. The Red Foxes forced 21 turnovers by the Saints.

Marist opened up the first half on a 17-0 run, extending to the 12:58 mark. Siena’s Tehresa Cole broke the silence with a layup, her first of 12 points to lead the Saints. Siena kept pace with the Red Foxes over the following four minutes, posting a 24-11 score with 8:30 to play. Blais hit one of eight threes made by Marist in the first half to go up 27-11. Two Saint’s free-throws by Ida Krogh followed by an Ockenden jumper maintained Marist’s 16 point lead. The rivals shot basket-for-basket to close the half as the Red Foxes headed into the locker room with a 40-23 lead.

To mimic the first half, Marist opened up the second half on a 10-0 run to take a 50-23 lead with 16:26 to go. This time it was Siena’s Emia Willingham with the layup to break up the run. An O’Connor layup, Coffey three, and Ockenden free-throw put Marist up by a then game-high 31 points at the 12:11 mark. The Saints rallied back with a 5-0 run to pull within 26 at the 9:09 mark. The Red Foxes responded with a 14-0 run, concluded by a trip to the charity stripe by redshirt junior Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.). A shot-for-shot pattern closed out the game as Marist defeated Siena 78-39.

The Red Foxes return home on Saturday, Feb. 8 against Fairfield. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at McCann Arena. Saturday’s game is the annual Pack the House game. Tickets are going fast so get yours today by clicking here!
