LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Senior forward Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) and senior center Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) each notched double-doubles as the Marist men's basketball team earned a 68-61 win at Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Thursday night.

Bowie notched 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Kemp led the Red Foxes with 16 points and had 10 rebounds. Red-shirt freshman guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) and junior forward Manny Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Marist outrebounded Rider, 47-26, and grabbed 19 offensive boards. Marist was also 18-for-22 (.818) from the free-throw line. The Red Foxes outscored the Broncs 40-29 in the second half after trailing by four at halftime. Kemp had 14 points and eight rebounds in the second half.

Anthony Myles led Rider with 17 points. Daniel Stewart had 16, and Zedric Sadler totaled two points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

There were 11 lead changes and eight ties in the contest. Marist trailed 10-3 just 4:05 into the game. Over the next 3:50, the Red Foxes went on a 12-4 run to take the lead, which included a pair of three-pointers by Bowie. The lead changed hands a total of eight times in the first half, and Rider led 32-28 at halftime.

Marist outscored Rider 10-2 over the first 4:46 of the second half to take a 38-34 lead, a spurt which included six points from Kemp. With 12:22 to play, a three-pointer by Bowie put Marist up 45-38. Rider battled back to tie the game just 4:01 later, and a dunk by Myles gave the Broncs a 54-52 lead with 6:05 remaining.

The Red Foxes, though, had the last word. Hart’s three-point play with 2:08 remaining put the Red Foxes up 62-59, and they did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way. Hart’s jumper on the next possession put Marist up five with 1:25 left. Rider got as close as two in the final minute, but the Broncs mustered only one point on three final-minute possessions in which they had a chance to tie or take the lead. Marist closed out the game by going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the final 31 seconds, which included a 5-for-6 performance by Thomas and a 2-for-2 effort by junior guard T.J. Curry (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

Marist has now won three straight, and is 9-14 overall and 6-7 in the MAAC. Rider is 12-10 overall and 8-5 in MAAC play. It was the Red Foxes’ first win at Rider since Jan. 4, 2008.

The Red Foxes will return to action on Monday at Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. It will be the first meeting in program history between the Red Foxes and Bobcats.
