BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Binghamton 179-121 today in its last regular season meet.
Senior Bonnie Orr (Fresno, Calif.) took first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle, claiming a personal best time in 10:35.62. Also winning for Marist, senior Maddie Arciello (Missoula, Mont.) took first in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:56.46, while Orr followed behind in second (1:58.45). Sophomore Bethany Powhida (Delmar, N.Y.) also claimed first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.83.
In the diving events, junior Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.) placed first in the three-meter dive with a score of 233.63. Also for Marist, sophomore Renata Diotalevi (Madison, Conn.) posted a second place finish in the three-meter dive (226.13). In the one-meter dive, Renata placed second with a score of 200.03, while Tobias claimed third place with 193.50 points.
The Red Foxes took second place in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.04. The relay consisted of freshman Colleen Lampe (East Setauket, NY.), freshman Isabelle Morreale (Short Hills, N.J.), senior Emily Miles (Long Valley, N.J.), and freshman Meredith Wurtz (Lafayette Hill, Pa.). Marist also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle, made up of Wurtz, sophomore Bridget Curley (Endwell, N.Y.), Orr, and Arciello, with a time of 3:40.05.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Arciello and Wurtz placed second (24.63) and third (25.22), respectively. The pair also took second and third in the 100-yard freestyle, with Arciello coming in second (53.62) and Wurtz claiming third (54.18).
Also for Marist, Powhida took third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:43.43), while Lampe and Powhida took second (59.72) and third (59.82), respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke. Morreale placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.92) and third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.83), while freshman Sarah Mosca (Dansville, NY.) took second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.80) and third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.42). Orr also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:16.22, while Miles placed third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.72.
The Red Foxes move on to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. from Feb. 13-15.
