BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The men’s swimming and diving team fell to Binghamton 167-128 today in the last regular season meet.
Claiming a first place victory for the Red Foxes, senior Nicholas Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.21. Junior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) placed second in the event with a time of 1:56.65. The 400-yard freestyle relay team also placed first for Marist, with a time of 3:17.83. The relay consisted of junior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.), senior Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.), sophomore Caleb Camp (Chapel Hill, N.C.), and Spinella.
Marist claimed second place in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.65. The relay team consisted of Cummings, junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.), freshman Alex Cassel, (East Greenville, Pa.), and Spitzer.
In the diving events, junior Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) placed second in the one-meter dive (269.10), while sophomore Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) took third (255.38). In the three-meter dive, Dodway claimed second place with a score of 552.50, while Baker posted third place with 228.83 points.
Also for the Red Foxes, freshman Ryan Murphy (New Fairfield, Conn.) placed second in the 1,000 freestyle (9:55.75), while also taking third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.41). Cummings and Camp took second (52.32) and third (54.19), respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke. Also for Marist, junior Nicholas Vandermolen took third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.95) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.28), while Ruddy placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.32).
In the 50-yard freestyle, Spitzer finished in second (21.68), while Lombardi finished right behind in third (22.45). Camp took second in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.01, while Spitzer finished behind in 49.33. Murphy placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.64), while junior Bill Drenne (Collegeville, Pa.) finished behind in 4:58.01. Ruddy also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (53.79), and Spinella followed behind with a time of 53.86. In the 200-yard individual medley, Ruddy placed second (1:59.44) and Cummings placed third (1:59.49).
The Red Foxes move on to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. from Feb. 13-15.
