Women's Basketball To Face MAAC Newcomer, Monmouth On Saturday
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women’s basketball team (16-5, 10-1 MAAC) faces Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) newcomer, Monmouth (6-16, 5-6 MAAC) on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. Fans can listen to the game live with the voice of the women’s basketball team, Geoff Brault, on the Red Fox Network, WKIP 1450 AM, and iHeart Radio. The pregame show begins at 1:45 p.m.
Last time out, Marist defeated Rider, 66-56, improving to 10-1 in conference play. Senior Emma O'Connor recorded her fourth double-double this season, posting 23 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) had 13 points and three assists. Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) posted seven points and matched a team-high four assists. Senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) had nine points and six boards while senior Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) posted eight points, six boards, four assists, and a team-high two steals.
This is the first meeting between Marist and Monmouth since 1997 when the Red Foxes defeated the Hawks, 62-58. The all-time series record between the two teams is 18-14 in favor of Monmouth. Prior to joining the MAAC, Marist and Monmouth were both members of the Northeast Conference (NEC). Marist joined the MAAC for the 1997-98 season. The Hawks jumped ship for the 2013-14 year.
Notes: As of Jan. 31, Blais leads the NCAA in Division I for three-point percentage, shooting .512. O’Connor is 23rd nationally in field goal percentage shooting .564. Marist received 10 votes in the most recent USA Today Sports Coaches Poll (updated 1/28/14), essentially ranking 31st nationally. Ockenden is 13 points away from scoring her 1,000th career point. All five usual starters average in double figures per game (Blais 14.4, Coffey 10.1, Dulin 10.3, O’Connor 14.2, Ockenden 12.4). Head coach Brian Giorgis is seven wins away from his 300th career win.
