BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Marist men's basketball team fell to Canisius by a score of 78-65 on Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the Koessler Athletic Center.

Red-shirt freshman guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) had 17 points, four steals and two rebounds. Senior center Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) scored 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting. Senior forward Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) had his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals. His 12 rebounds tied a career high.

Canisius' Billy Baron led all scorers with 38 points, which included 25 in the first half. Baron shot 12-for-23 from the field, 5-for-11 from three-point range, and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. Baron paced four Golden Griffins in double figures, as Chris Perez, Chris Manhertz and Zach Lewis added 14, 13 and 10 points, respectively. Perez scored all of his points in the second half. Manhertz grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Marist got off to a fast start, jumping out to an 11-2 lead and forcing Canisius to call timeout at the 14:59 mark. Lewis hit two free throws coming out of the under-eight media timeout to give the Red Foxes a 20-16 lead at the 7:13 mark. From there, Canisius closed out the half on a 22-4 run to take a 38-24 halftime lead. Baron scored 15 points in that span, and the Golden Griffins outscored the Red Foxes 13-0 over the final 1:41 of the half.

After a dunk by Kemp on the first possession of the second half, Canisius went on a 7-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 45-26 with 17:34 to play. Marist cut its deficit to 10 on two occasions in the second half, but was never able to get it back to single digits. The Red Foxes outscored the Golden Griffins 41-40 in the second half.
