NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Marist men’s swimming and diving team fell to Southern Connecticut State 177-117 on Saturday.
For the Red Foxes, the diving team dominated the one- and three-meter dives, claiming the top three spots in both events. Sophomore Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) led Marist with a score of 286.65, while senior Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) claimed second place and junior Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) followed behind in third for the one-meter dive. For the three-meter dive, Molloy took first with a score of 309.45, while Dodway took second place and Baker followed in third.
Marist claimed two spots in the 200 yard butterfly, with junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) taking second place (1:57.11), and junior Sean Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y.) following directly behind in third place. The Red Foxes also took two spots in the 200 yard breaststroke, with junior Nick Vandermolen (Brielle, N.J.) taking second place (2:16.77) and Sullivan following suit in third place. Also posting two places in the 100 yard butterfly, senior Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) claimed second place (52.94) and junior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) took third. In the 400 yard individual medley, Sullivan took second place with a time of 4:18.39, as Ruddy followed in third place for the Red Foxes.
Murphy took second place in the 100 yard free while also placing third in the 500 yard freestyle in 4:45.74, while Cummings claimed third in the 100 yard backstroke in 3:03.17. Also for Marist, Vandermolen took third place in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.39), and Spinella claimed second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.19. In the 100 yard freestyle, junior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) took third place with a time of 48.34. Freshman Chris Penteck (Holbrook, NY.) placed second for the Red Foxes in the 200 yard backstroke, claiming a time of 2:00.37.
Also for Marist, the 200 yard freestyle relay claimed second place with a time of 1:28.31. The relay consisted of Spitzer, junior Spencer Kelley (Weston, Conn.), senior Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.) and Spinella. The men’s 200 yard medley, consisting of Cummings, freshman David Dimarco (Nazareth, Pa.), Ruddy and Spitzer, took third place.
The Red Foxes will host Boston College next Weekend at McCann Natatorium. The meet is set to kick off at 1 p.m.
