EDISON, N.J. – Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) and freshman Katharine Fogarty (Peterborough, N.H.) have been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. Coffey and Fogarty led Marist to a historic week, notching two victories over Northeastern, predicted to finish 3rd in the CAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll, and nationally ranked #20/19 Oklahoma. Marist improved to 7-4 overall, continuing its six-game winning streak.
The Red Foxes defeated Northeastern, 103-66, marking the first time Marist has scored 100 points under head coach Brian Giorgis. Coffey posted 19 points, five assists, five rebounds, and two steals for the Red Foxes, shooting 6-9 (.666) from the field, 1-2 (.500) from three-point range and 6-7 (.857) from the free-throw line. Fogarty was one of four Red Foxes that shot in double digits on Wednesday. Fogarty posted 14 points, shooting 3-4 from the field (.750), 2-3 from three-point range, (.667), and 6-6 from the free-throw line. She contributed an additional five rebounds and one block in the historic game.
Marist defeated #20/19 Oklahoma on Saturday, 76-69. This is only the second victory over a nationally ranked opponent in regular season program history, the first time ever at home, and the first time in the MAAC this season. Coffey recorded a career and team-high 25 points. She also contributed three rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. Coffey shot 7-9 (.778) from the field, 1-3 (.333) from beyond the arc, and 10-12 (.833) from the free-throw line, including a layup and two free-throws in the final ten seconds of the game to secure the Red Fox victory. Fogarty posted two points, three rebounds, and one block for Marist.
