Four Marist Football Players To Play In FCS Senior Scout Bowl
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Four Marist football players – quarterback Chuckie Looney (Ocala, Fla.), left tackle Peter Evans (Laconia, N.H.), left guard Rocco Manfre (Neptune, N.J.) and right tackle Phede Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) – will play in this year’s Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Senior Scout Bowl. The game will take place on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
All four Red Foxes earned All-Pioneer Football League honors this season. Looney was named to the Second Team after setting the program’s single-season and career records for completions, attempts, passing yards and passing touchdowns this season, as well as the single-game record for passing touchdowns. Evans started all 11 games at left tackle, and was named First Team All-PFL. Manfre, who was named Second Team All-PFL, started every game at left guard. Celestin is a three-time First Team All-PFL selection, and was named an FCS Third Team All-American by The Sports Network.
Together, the efforts of Looney, Evans, Manfre and Celestin helped the Red Foxes set a school record by scoring 378 points this season. Marist averaged 34.4 points and 416.5 yards of total offense per game.
This season, the Marist football team won a share of the PFL championship for the first time in the Red Foxes’ five years in the league. With an 8-3 overall record, Marist achieved its highest win total in its 36 years as a varsity program.
