POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist men's basketball team (0-8 overall, 0-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) hosts Manhattan (4-2, 0-0) in its conference home opener on Friday night at McCann Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free fan banner.
The Red Foxes dropped an 83-74 decision at Iona in their last outing on Wednesday in their first MAAC game of the season. Four Red Foxes scored in double digits, led by junior Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) with 20. Junior T.J. Curry (Brooklyn, N.Y.), making his first start of the season, tied his career high with 16 points. Four Red Foxes scored in double digits, as red-shirt freshman Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) and senior Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) each added 15.
Manhattan, which reached last year's MAAC championship game, was this year's pick to finish first in the preseason coaches' poll. The Jaspers are 4-0 in road games this year, and are led in scoring by red-shirt senior George Beamon, who is averaging 23.3 points per game.
Prior to tip-off, Lewis will be presented a commemorative basketball for having scored his 1,000th career point on Sunday, Nov. 10 vs. Elon. At halftime, Marist's 2013 Pioneer Football League championship team will be honored.
