NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Marist men's basketball team suffered an 83-74 loss in its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opener at Iona on Wednesday.

Four Red Foxes scored in double digits - junior swingman Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) had a team-high 20 points, junior guard T.J. Curry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tied his career high with 16 in his first start of the season, and senior forward Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) and red-shirt freshman guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) had 15 apiece. Bowie shot 6-for-8 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range.

Lewis had a team-high nine rebounds. Senior center Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) added eight rebounds to go along with four points, two steals and a block. Junior guard Isaiah Morton (Vineland, N.J.) had five assists and no turnovers.

Iona drained 17 three-pointers in the game, and shot 10-for-15 (.667) from deep in the second half. Sean Armand led all scorers with 26. A.J. English had a double-double with 11 points and 13 assists. David Laury scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. The Gaels had 26 assists on 30 field goals, and shot .556 (30-for-54) from the field.

Iona jumped out to an early 11-4 lead, but the Red Foxes tied the game with a 7-0 run with 15 minutes left in the first half. However, Iona answered with a 7-0 run of its own to take the lead for good. Marist used a 10-0 run to cut its deficit to one with 8:07 left in the first half, but Iona took a 39-31 halftime lead.

Iona expanded its lead to 15 two minutes into the second half thanks to a 9-2 run, but the Red Foxes answered with a 9-2 run of their own to cut their deficit back to eight. However, Marist would come no closer. Playing hard until the end, the Red Foxes nine points in the final 49 seconds to cut the final deficit to nine.

Marist is now 0-8 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC; Iona is 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC.
