NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Marist men's basketball team (0-7) opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night against Iona (3-2). Tip-off at the Hynes Center is set for 7 p.m.
Wednesday night's game is the first game of the entire MAAC schedule. This season, for the first time, MAAC schools will play 20 games against conference foes.
Marist is returning to action after an eight-day layoff. In their last outing, the Red Foxes suffered a 74-67 defeat in overtime to Morgan State in their final game of the Paradise Jam on Nov. 25. Senior forward Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) led the Red Foxes with a season-high 22 points, including five three-pointers. Senior center/forward Pieter Prinsloo (Johannesburg, South Africa) hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds.
Iona enters the contest having won its last two games, the most recent of which was a 90-72 triumph over 2013 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen participant Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. Tre Bowman led the Gaels with 29 points en route to being named MAAC Player of the Week. Iona's leading scorer is Sean Armand, who is averaging 20.2 points per game was named MAAC Player of the Week the previous week. The Gaels are the defending MAAC champions, and were picked second in this year's preseason poll.
The last meeting between the teams resulted in a thrilling 105-104 double overtime victory for Marist at Iona on Feb. 7, 2013. Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) hit a 65-footer to force the second overtime, and Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) finished with 29 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Following Wednesday night's game, Marist will return to action on Friday at McCann Arena. The Red Foxes will face MAAC preseason favorite Manhattan at 7 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free fan banner.
