Marist Hosts Final Home Matches of the Season in MAAC Play

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist Volleyball team will host its last regular season matches of the season this weekend, as the Red Foxes take on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents Saint Peter’s and Rider. Saturday’s match against the Peacocks will start at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Marist will celebrate its seniors in their last home match before the first set kicks off at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: Marist’s volleyball team posted its fifth straight MAAC match victory over Canisius last Sunday. The Red Foxes won 3-1 (18-25, 25-13, 26-24, 26-24) in order to maintain their top position in the conference.

The Red Foxes posted 66 digs for the day, with junior Brooke Zywick (Garden City, Mich.) tallying 17. Junior Becca Jones (Arlington, Va.), senior Audra Brady (Allentown, Pa.) and freshman Lexi Millington (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) each had 11 digs. Brady also had a match-high 50 assists. Sophomore Kelsey Lahey (Bowling Green, Ohio) led Marist with 21 kills and 22 points.

The Red Foxes averaged a .267 attack percentage, while also claiming 9.5 team blocks.

Marist in the MAAC: With both MAAC victories and an Iona win over Fairfield last weekend, the Red Foxes improved to second place in the conference. The team now boasts a 12-4 record in the conference, 18-8 overall.

The Red Foxes lead the conference with 746 assists, posting 12.64 per set, and 790 kills, averaging 13.39 per set. Following suit, Marist falls in second place in the MAAC in service aces (80 overall, 1.67 per set), and opponent hitting percentage (.152). The Red Foxes fell to third in the conference in digs (976 overall, 16.54 per set), and fourth in hitting percentage (.212).

Leading the way for Marist, freshman Lexi Millington (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) is in first place in the conference with 34 service aces, averaging .58 per set.

Following suit, junior Mackenzie Stephens (Holland, Mich.) is second in the conference in hitting percentage, going 188-53-434 (.311). She is also fifth in kills (188, 3.19 per set), fifth in points (220.5, 3.74 per set) and sixth in blocks (59, 1.00 per set).

Also in the top of the conference, senior Audra Brady (Allentown, Pa.) claims third in the conference in assists, recording 630 and averaging 10.86 per set. Junior Brooke Zywick (Garden City, Mich.) has accumulated 282 digs (4.78 per set) to also put her in third place in the conference.

Also for the Red Foxes, sophomore Courtney Shaw (Centennial, Co.) is sixth in hitting percentage, going 173-57-404 (.287), and sophomore Kelsey Lahey (Bowling Green, Ohio) is seventh in kills (176, 2.98 per set).

Scouting Saint Peter’s: Saint Peter’s is ninth in the MAAC, posting a 2-14 conference record, 4-26 overall. The peacocks are currently on a four-game losing streak after falling to Rider on Saturday.

The team is averaging 10.62 kills per set, 9.97 assists per set and 12.74 digs per set. Saint Peter’s has recorded a .129 attack percentage, claiming 1,399.5 points in 30 matches.

 

The peacocks are third in the conference in service aces, recording 93 in 57 sets, averaging 1.63 per set. Seniors Laura Reinhart and Jennifer Pliska are second (26, .48 per set) and fourth (21, .37), respectively, in the conference in service aces. Pliska is also second in the MAAC in digs (275, 4.82 per set), just .05 ahead of Zywick.

 

Scouting Rider: The Broncs are in seventh place in the conference with a 6-10 MAAC record, 15-12 overall.

Rider is averaging 12.11 kills per set, 11.27 assists per set, and 15.35 digs per set. The team has recorded 194 blocks in 27 games, posting 15.70 points per set.

Freshman Kaitlyn Griffin leads the Broncs for the MAAC leaders, claiming seventh in service aces (17, .30 per set) and 10th in blocks (50.0, .88 per set).
