POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist Volleyball Head Coach Tom Hanna has announced the signing of two student-athletes for the class of 2018. Sydney Rojek and Kelsey Ediger have both committed to join the Red Foxes for the 2014 season.
Sydney Rojek – 5’10” – Setter – Lake View, NY/Frontier Central HS/Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club
Rojek will join Marist after four successful years as a varsity player for Frontier Central High School, where she was also a three-year captain. In 2011 and 2012, she was named Third Team All-State and was named with Buffalo News First Team honors in 2012. From 2010-12, Rojek was First Team All-Western NY, All-ECIC as well as a NY State Scholar Athlete.
Hanna on Rojeck: “Sydney is a great athlete who makes us better immediately with her solid skills, competitiveness and work ethic. Her experiences with both Frontier Central and Niagara Frontier have her well prepared for the college game. We’re excited to bring Syd into our program.”
Kelsey Ediger – 5’9” – Left Side Hitter – Pearland, TX/Glenda Dawson HS/Houston Stellar Volleyball Club
Ediger joins the Red Foxes after a successful four-year varsity stint at Glenda Dawson High School. She was named Second Team All-District two years in a row (2011-12) while also being honored as a 2012 Academic All District student-athlete.
Hanna on Ediger: “Kelsey is a dynamic left side hitter with a live arm who will be successful in our conference. Her experience playing at a high level in Texas for both Houston Stellar and Dawson High will benefit our program over the coming years. We’re happy to have another great player from Texas join our program.”
The Red Foxes are closing out their regular season this weekend against Saint Peter’s and Rider. A Marist sweep will give the Red Foxes a piece of the regular season title. Saturday’s match is set to kick off at 4 p.m. at the McCann Arena, while Sunday’s Senior Day celebration and MAAC match will kick off at 1 p.m.
