SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Marist football team will be trying to win its fourth straight game while staying undefeated in Pioneer Football League on play on Saturday, when the Red Foxes face San Diego. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
The Red Foxes (3-2 overall, 2-0 PFL) and Toreros (3-2 overall, 2-0 PFL) are two of the three undefeated teams remaining in PFL play. Butler is also 2-0 in the league. This year's PFL regular-season champion earns an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs for the first time.
Marist enters the contest having won three straight, its longest winning streak since having taken six in a row in 2009. Last week, the Red Foxes defeated Valparaiso 37-0 for their first shutout since 2009. Senior quarterback Chuckie Looney (Ocala, Fla.) set the program's career record for passing yards, and enters this game 10 completions and 29 attempts away from setting program records in those categories. Fifth-year senior defensive end Terrence Fede (Nyack, N.Y.) is the reigning PFL Defensive Player of the Week after recording eight tackles and two sacks against Valparaiso.
San Diego has defeated its first two PFL opponents this season, Stetson and Mercer, by a combined score of 104-13. Kenn James is the reigning PFL Special Teams Player of the Week after having returned the opening kickoff of the Mercer game 95 yards for a touchdown.
Next week, Marist will conclude a stretch of a five road games in a six-game span at PFL foe Davidson.
