Women’s Crew Opens Season With Good Showing At West Point
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Marist women’s crew team opened its 2013-14 season on Saturday, racing against several squads at Army. Joining the Red Foxes and the Black Knights in the field were Fordham, Iona, Vassar and Sara Lawrence.
In the Varsity 8 race, the Marist A boat finished second behind Fordham’s A boat, crossing the finish line in 17:52, more than 40 seconds ahead of the third place boat, also from Fordham. The Red Foxes’ B shell took fourth in a time of 18:48.
Marist had four crews in two heats of Varsity 4 races. In the first event, the Marist A boat took second in 19:40, 19 seconds behind the top squad from Fordham. Marist’s B crew came in sixth in 21:00.
In the second heat, the Marist C boat crossed the finish line in 21:59, placing second behind only the A boat from MAAC opponent Iona. The Red Foxes’ D shell came in sixth in a time of 23:25.
The Marist men’s and women’s crew teams are next on the water at the Prestigious Head of the Charles regatta in Boston on the weekend of Oct. 19-20. The women’s racing will take place on Saturday while the men will compete on Sunday.
