POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist football team (1-2 overall) travels to Dayton (2-1) in the Pioneer Football League opener for both teams on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Both teams are coming off a bye week, and had impressive victories in non-league play prior to that. In the Red Foxes' last outing, they recorded their first win on the road against a Patriot League school in program history with a 43-23 triumph over Georgetown. Following that game, senior quarterback Chuckie Looney (Ocala, Fla.) was named PFL Co-Offensive Player of the week. Dayton headed into its bye with back-to-back victories over NEC schools Duquesne and Robert Morris.
This is the last of three straight games the Red Foxes will play the road. Next Saturday, they return home to face Valparaiso on Alumni Weekend. Kickoff will be at noon.
This is the first season that the PFL champion will earn an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs. Saturday's game marks the first of eight games in eight weeks Marist will have against league foes.
Fans can listen live to Ed Weir (play-by-play) and Mike Ferraro (color) beginning at 12:45 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on WKIP (1450 AM in Poughkeepsie), the Red Fox Network and iHeartRadio.
