Dulin, O'Connor And Ockenden Named Captains For 2013-2014 Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's basketball team and head coach Brian Giorgis have named the captains for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The trio of seniors, forward Emma O’Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and guards Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) and Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) will lead the squad.

“Casey, Leanne, and Emma are outstanding leaders and the core of our 2013-2014 team,” said Giorgis. “They have been tremendous assets to our program the last three years. I am confident they will provide the leadership necessary to help us achieve our goals for this season.”

Dulin is a second year captain, serving as a captain during her junior campaign alongside Ockenden and Elizabeth Beynnon (Burlington, Vt.). Dulin was selected to the 2013 MAAC All-Tournament Team, All-MAAC Second Team, and was named MAAC Player of the Week in February. During the 2012-2013 season she played in all 33 games and registered 30 starts. Dulin finished second on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game and tied for third with 4.2 rebounds per game. She finished third on the team with 29 three-point field goals, a .337 three point percentage, and a .798 free throw percentage. Her career free throw percentage is .794, ranking ninth all time. She led the Red Foxes with 106 assists, averaging 3.2 per game, and was second with 51 steals.

Ockenden is also serving her second term as team captain. She was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, selected to the MAAC All-Tournament Team, All-MAAC Third Team, and MAAC Player of the Week in December. Ockenden played and started all 33 games in the 2012-2013 season. She finished fifth on the team in scoring with 8.7 points per game and rebounding with 3.9 rebounds per game. She led the Red Foxes with 51 three-point field goals, 65 steals, and 19 blocks. Ockenden has made 145 three-point field goals in her career, ranking sixth all time. She was second in assists with 79.

O’Connor is a first year captain. She was selected to the All-MAAC Third Team and named MAAC Co-Player of the Week in January. She played in 31 games, making 30 starts. O’Connor led the team with 4.7 rebounds per game and finished fourth on the team with 9.1 points per game. She finished second for the Red Foxes with a .476 field goal percentage, third with 39 steals, and tied for fourth with 12 blocks.
