POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Pioneer Football League (PFL) held a coaches’ teleconference on Tuesday in advance of the first full weekend of league games.

Marist (1-2) plays at Dayton (2-1) on Saturday in the league opener for both. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. For the first time this season, the PFL champion will earn an automatic bid to the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. This game marks the first of eight consecutive weeks the Red Foxes will face a league opponent.

Here are some quotes from Marist Head Coach Jim Parady:

On the 43-23 win at Georgetown on Sept. 14:
“The Georgetown win was a big one for us after we started 0-2, and did not play great football in those two weeks. It was a great win over a Patriot League school.”

On this week’s opponent, Dayton:
“Dayton presents a lot of great challenges. They play fantastic defense, and they have over the last four years we’ve played them.”

On having a balanced attack against Georgetown:
“It was great to get the run game going against Georgetown. It was good to get it going, but we know that Dayton presents a lot of issues trying to run the ball against them.”

On playing its third straight road game:
“We’ve put together a pretty good travel plan. Our players are comfortable with going on the road. You get the team together for 24 hours before the game. We deal with it pretty well right now.”

On the performance of senior quarterback Chuckie Looney:
“He’s had a great start to the season. He worked extremely hard during the offseason to better himself mentally and physically. He studied a lot of film, and it shows in how he goes through his progressions.”

On some of the team’s defensive highlights:
Terrence Fede has gathered a lot of attention from opposing offenses. When he was left singled up against Georgetown, he was disruptive. Paul Sakowski is the head of our defense. He helps control the front six for us, and gets us in the right position. Zachary Quarles at corner has played very well for us as a first-year starter.”

Here are some quotes from Dayton Head Coach Rick Chamberlin on the Red Foxes:

On the Red Foxes’ offense:
“It all starts with their quarterback, Chuckie Looney. ... They have lots of weapons with their running backs and receivers, but you can tell Chuckie is the one in charge. We’re just trying to maintain him, and you hope you don’t give up big plays.”

On defensive end Terrence Fede and the Marist defense:
“Fede is quite a player. He was a senior last year, and when I saw he was coming back for a fifth year, that led to a lot of sleepless nights. We’re going to have to be able to handle their defense up front. I’ve always felt Marist has had one of the best defenses in the conference each and every year.”

The Marist-Dayton game will air live on WKIP (1450 AM in Poughkeepsie) and the Red Fox Network beginning with the pregame show at 12:45 p.m. Saturday.
