POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women’s soccer team kicks off its 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Manhattan College. The Red Foxes (2-4-2) kick off against the Jaspers (3-5) at 4 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. The game is the womens soccer team’s fourth annual Pink Out Game, supporting the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.

MAAC Success: In the MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Marist was voted second while Manhattan was voted tenth. The Red Foxes are looking to have another successful MAAC campaign following the past two seasons. In 2011, Marist earned the MAAC Championship title and a NCAA Tournament berth. The Red Foxes were co-champions in 2012.

Last Time Out: Marist fell to Seton Hall 2-1 on the road Wednesday night in double overtime. Junior Amanda Epstein (Jericho, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Red Foxes in the second minute of the game off a chip over the keeper’s head. Seton Hall responded off a corner kick in the 18th minute to tie the game 1-1. A staggering 20 shots were attempted between the two teams in the second half, but the half remained scoreless heading into overtime. The Pirates prevailed, scoring one minute into the second overtime period to earn a 2-1 victory. Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded nine saves. 

Last Meeting: The teams last played in the 2012 season on Oct. 19, as Marist traveled to Riverdale, N.Y.  Marist defeated the Jaspers 2-1. Alycia Cartica (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.), scored the first goal for the Red Foxes in the 21st minute. Megan McEnroe (St. James, N.Y.) scored for the Red Foxes in the 43rd minute to take the 2-0 lead. Wicks recorded three saves. 

Scouting Manhattan College: The Jaspers finished last season with a 5-12 overall record and 2-7 in the MAAC. Manhattan is 3-5 to date in its 2013 campaign. Janie Schlauder and Erica Modera each have recorded 3 goals for the Jaspers. Goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny has recorded 30 saves with a save percentage of .833. 

The women’s soccer team stays home for its second MAAC matchup of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Marist kicks off against Niagara at 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium.
