EDISON, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced its women’s basketball conference schedule for the upcoming 2013-14 season. With the addition of two newcomers, Monmouth and Quinnipiac, to the conference, MAAC teams will have a 20-game conference schedule for the first time in the 2013-14 season. Along with the Red Foxes’ 10-game non-conference schedule, Marist will play a total of 30 regular season games this year.

“It should be another strong season of competition in the MAAC, especially with the addition of both Quinnipiac and Monmouth,” Marist head coach Brian Giorgis said. “We start right off with a difficult game against Quinnipiac who had a 30-win season last year and went to the NCAA Tournament.”

Marist will open its MAAC slate on the road against Quinnipiac on Friday, Dec. 6. The game, slated for 6 p.m. will be broadcast live on ESPN3. Marist is 0-1 all-time against Quinnipiac, with the one meeting coming back in 1985. The Red Foxes and Bobcats were two of just 10 Division I teams in 2012-13 to go undefeated in conference play, each finishing 18-0 in the MAAC and Northeast Conference (NEC), respectively.

The MAAC opener at Quinnipiac interrupts the Red Foxes’ traditional non-conference schedule as they will play three more opponents from outside the MAAC. Included in those three games are home games against Northeastern on Dec. 18 and Big 12 power Oklahoma on Dec. 21.

The Red Foxes will play strictly MAAC opponents starting with a New Year’s Eve home date against Canisius. The game will kick off a three-game home stand for Marist as Manhattan (Friday, Jan. 3) and Siena (Tuesday, Jan. 7) will also visit McCann Arena.

The home stand ends when the Red Foxes take a trip to Fairfield on Saturday, Jan. 11, however they return to McCann Arena just two days later, on Monday, Jan. 13 for a 2013 MAAC Championship rematch with Iona. The Gaels, voted second in this season’s preseason poll, return last year’s MAAC Player of the Year Damika Martinez and Rookie of the Year Joy Adams.

The annual trip to Buffalo will take place the following weekend when the Red Foxes will play road contests against Niagara (Friday, Jan. 17) and Canisius (Sunday, Jan. 19).

Marist will return to McCann Arena for another home stand, playing three games in seven days. The Red Foxes will face Saint Peter’s (Thursday, Jan. 23), Niagara (Saturday, Jan. 25) and Rider (Wednesday, Jan. 29) to close out the month of January.

February opens with Marist’s first conference trip to Monmouth on Saturday, Feb. 1. Marist is 14-18 all-time against the Hawks, as the two teams met twice a year when Marist was in the NEC prior to moving to the MAAC in 1997. The two-game road trip will conclude with a contest at Siena on Thursday, Feb. 6.

Fairfield comes to Poughkeepsie on Saturday, Feb. 8 before the Red Foxes head back out on the road, traveling to Saint Peter’s for a game on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The Red Foxes will then host Quinnipiac on Friday, Feb. 14 in a contest to be televised on ESPNU at 5 p.m. The game will be the first half of a doubleheader at McCann Arena as the Marist men's team will take on Siena afterward, also in a televised contest.

Marist will play three of its final four games away from its home court, starting with a matchup at Rider on Friday, Feb. 21. The Red Foxes will then make the quick trip to Manhattan, the site of their only conference loss in the past three seasons, on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Senior Day will take place on Friday, Feb. 28 when Monmouth visits McCann Arena and Marist will close out its regular season on Sunday, Feb. 2 at Iona.

The 2014 MAAC Basketball Championships will be held at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., from Thursday, March 6 through Monday, March 10.

Marist, a unanimous choice in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll to win its ninth consecutive MAAC Championship, will open its 2013-14 season on Friday, Nov. 8 with a home game against Kentucky at McCann Arena. All game times will be announced at a later date.
