POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Head coach Tom Hanna announced that the Marist volleyball team has selected its team captains for the 2013 season. Seniors Audra Brady (Allentown, Pa.) and Grace Hill (Kalamazoo, Mich.) along with junior Mackenzie Stephens (Holland, Mich.) were picked via a team vote.
“I’m excited about the quality of our leadership for the 2013 season," Hanna said. "Grace and Audra have successfully led our program in the past and Kinsey is a solid addition to our leadership structure. We have spent time over the last year developing our leaders and I look forward to this trio helping lead us to a MAAC Championship.”
Brady, one of the three co-captains from the 2012 season, appeared in all 28 matches for the Red Foxes last season. She led Marist, and finished 10th in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a 6.96 assist/set average. She currently ranks sixth in Marist history with 1,809 career assists. Last season, Brady was also second on the team with 27 service aces, third in digs with 204 and sixth with 23 total blocks.
Hill also served as one of the Red Foxes’ co-captains a year ago as a junior. She only played seven matches in 2012 before tearing her ACL and missing the remainder of the season. At the time of her injury, Hill was leading Marist 74 kills and 3.36 kills/set and was second in digs with 54. She was also third with four service aces and among the leaders with 10 total blocks. She currently ranks eighth in the Marist record books with 798 career kills and is seventh with 2,169 total attacks.
Stephens had a very strong sophomore campaign in 2012, leading both Marist and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in blocking with 117 total blocks and 1.13 blocks/set. Her 117 blocks ranks third in Marist single-season history and she holds the second-highest block total in a single match with 11, which she set on Sept. 1 of last season against Hartford. Stephens was the Red Foxes’ leader in kills with 268 and ranked sixth in the MAAC with a .303 hitting percentage.
Marist opens its 2013 season this Friday, Aug. 30, at the Toledo Invitational. The Red Foxes will play the host Rockets at noon on Friday before taking on Eastern Illinois at 5 p.m. They will close out the weekend with a match against Loyola University Chicago. Marist will play its first home matches of the season in the Volley in the Valley Tournament the weekend of Sept. 6-7 when Dartmouth, Hartford and UMass-Lowell all visit McCann Arena.
