POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist Athletics Department released the men’s basketball team’s non-conference schedule on Tuesday. In their first season under new head coach Jeff Bower, the Red Foxes will have nine games against non-conference opponents. Marist will play at least six games against teams which advanced to postseason play last year.

“We are pleased to have such a competitive schedule comprised of schools rich with basketball and academic accomplishments,” Bower said. “Our opponents allow us to touch the Big East, ACC, Atlantic 10, Ivy League, Patriot League, Colonial Athletic Association and America East, among others. We will be tested early and often but look forward to the challenge.”

For the second straight year, Marist will open its season against Stony Brook. The Red Foxes will take to the road for the game on Friday, Nov. 8. Last year, the Seawolves won 25 games, captured the America East regular-season title, and reached the second round of the NIT.

Marist will next head to Philadelphia to face Atlantic 10 foe St. Joseph’s on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The Hawks posted an 18-14 record last season and played in the NIT. The Red Foxes will then travel to Big East foe Providence on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Friars went 19-15 last year, and advanced to the second round of the NIT.

The following week, Marist will take part in the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. As previously announced, the Red Foxes will open the tournament against Maryland, which reached the Final Four of the 2013 NIT, on Friday, Nov. 22. Marist’s second tournament game will be against either Northern Iowa or Loyola Marymount. If the Red Foxes prevail in their opener against Maryland, they will next play on Sunday, Nov. 24. An opening-round loss will result in a second-round game on Saturday, Nov. 23. Marist’s final game will take place on Monday, Nov. 25 against either 2013 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen participant La Salle, Providence, Vanderbilt or Morgan State.

In the first week of December, Marist is slated to open play against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes. The opponents and sites will be released at a later date. The Red Foxes will resume non-conference play following final exams on Sunday, Dec. 15 at College of Charleston. This is a return game from the Cougars' trip to Poughkeepsie on New Year’s Eve of 2012. Last season, College of Charleston went 24-11 and qualified for the CBI.

Marist’s last two non-conference games will both take place at McCann Arena. Marist will host defending Patriot League champion Bucknell on Friday, Dec. 20, marking the sixth time in the last seven seasons the Red Foxes and Bison will meet. Two days later, Marist will host Ivy League foe Penn to close out the non-conference schedule. It will be the third meeting in the last four seasons between the Red Foxes and Quakers.

Game times will be released at a later date.
