POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist Athletics Department released the 2013-2014 men's and women's swimming and diving schedule on Friday. Head swimming coach Larry VanWagner in his 37th season, and associate head coach Melanie Bolstad in her 23rd, will lead the Red Foxes in an 10-meet regular season schedule.
The team begins competition with the Red & White Challenge, an inter-squad scrimmage, which will be held at the McCann Center Natatorium on Saturday, Oct. 12 and beginning at 11 a.m.
A conference dual meet with Canisius on Friday, Oct. 18 kicks off regular season action for Marist. This opening meet will serve as a strong barometer for the Red Foxes as the Golden Griffins finished top five in both the men's and women's 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.
Six days later on Thursday, Oct. 24 the Red Foxes will host their only home meet of the fall semester as Fordham visits the McCann Natatorium for a non-conference dual meett 6 p.m.
Two consecutive road MAAC meets dot Marist's schedule at Fairfield and Rider on Saturday, Nov.9 and Nov. 16, respectively. Both dual meets are slated for 1 p.m. starts.
The final meet of the 2013 calendar year is the H20unds Invitational in Baltimore on the weekend of Dec. 6-7. Hosted by former MAAC rival Loyola, the H20unds Invitational, will also feature MAAC schools Iona and Saint Peter's.
The Red Foxes' 2013 portion of their schedule begins with a Jan. 11 matchup versus Southern Connecticut State away at 1 p.m.
Home meets with the Boston College Eagles of the ACC and the Seton Hall Pirates of the Big East are slated to occur on the following weekends of Jan. 18 and Jan. 25 at McCann Natatorium. Both have 1 p.m. start times.
Marist's final regular season dual meet will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1 when the team travels to compete against Binghamton at 1 p.m.
Post-season competition begins with the Red Foxes returning to Erie Community College for the MAAC Championships on the weekend of Feb. 13-15. The Marist women look to defend their MAAC title over the three day event that concludes on Saturday, Feb. 15. In 2013, the Red Foxes’ women won their 14th championship at ECC's Burt Flickinger Pool with a 193-point victory over second place Rider while the men finished second, just 16.5 points behind the Broncs.
Two weeks later, Marist will compete at the ECAC Championships from Friday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, March 2. The Naval Academy will be the host institution for the event, in which the women's squad finished in third and the men finished in seventh this past season.
The NCAA Zone Diving Championships for qualified divers concluded the season for Marist on March 10-12 at Virginia Tech.
The Red Foxes will be captained in 2013-14 by seniors Maddie Arciello (Missoula, Mont.), Kim Kaller (New Providence, N.J.), Bonnie Orr (Fresno, Calif.), Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.), and Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, NY.).
