EDISON, N.J. - The Marist Athletics Department will host two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship Tournaments for the 2013-14 season, as it was announced by the conference on Tuesday. Both Tournaments will come in the spring as the Red Foxes will host the 2014 Water Polo and Men’s Lacrosse Championships.
The water polo team will host its 11th straight MAAC Tournament on the final weekend of April in the McCann Natatorium. The two semifinal games will be played on the afternoon of Saturday, April 26 with the consolation and championship games being held the following afternoon on Sunday, April 27. The Red Foxes finished in a three-way tie for first place in the 2013 regular season, earning the third seed in last year's tournament, but fell to Iona, the second seed and eventual champions, in the semifinals. Marist has won four of the past eight championships, winning in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The following weekend, May 2-4, the Marist men’s lacrosse team will host the 2014 Lacrosse Championships at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes most recently played host to the MAAC Tournament in 2012 and 2010, and have hosted a total of eight since 2001. Marist won a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship in 2013, finishing with a 5-1 record in conference play. The Red Foxes went 10-4 overall, registering the most wins by a Marist team since the 2004 season. Unfortunately, Marist’s season came to a premature conclusion on May 3 as the Red Foxes fell to Detroit 7-6 in the MAAC semifinals. The Red Foxes won its only MAAC Championship in 2005 when they defeated Mount St. Mary’s 10-6 at Tenney Stadium.
