POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women’s lacrosse team and Head Coach Jessica O’Brien have named its three captains for the upcoming 2014 season. Senior Bailey Knapton (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Tierney Larson (Fairfield, Conn.) and Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y.) will lead the Red Foxes, as selected by a team vote.

“I am confident that Jamie, Tierney and Bailey all possess the type of leadership the team will need to continue to propel our program forward,” O’Brien, the 2013 MAAC Coach of the Year, said. “These captains, along with their senior class will undoubtedly help push their teammates to a higher level of play and commitment. I am very excited to have all seniors - Bailey Knapton, Tierney Larson, Jamie Romano, Olivia Waters and Brooke Wickham in a position to make Marist the most threatening team in the MAAC for the 2014 season.”

Knapton enjoyed a comeback season in 2013, returning from a knee injury that forced her to miss all of 2012 after being named to the All-MAAC First Team in 2011. The midfielder appeared in all 19 games for the Red Foxes this past season, making 15 starts. She tied for fifth on the team with 23 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers, the fifth most on the team. She was named to the All-MAAC Second Team and earned a selection to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

Larson enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in Marist history in 2013, setting a program and MAAC single-season record with 51 assists, which finished the year ranked fifth in Division I. An All-MAAC First Team selection this spring, Larson led the Red Foxes with 61 points as she also scored 10 goals. She also grabbed 22 ground balls, good for the sixth highest on the team. Against Manhattan on April 10, Larson also set the Marist single-game record with seven assists. She was one of Marist’s conference-high 16 student-athletes to be named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

Romano also served as one of Marist’s co-captains last season when she started 17 games for the Red Foxes at the midfield position. She finished fourth on the team with a career-high 32 goals and fifth with 39 points. She led the Red Foxes with 81 draw controls and, through just three seasons, has already set the Marist career record with 180 draw controls. She was an All-MAAC First Team selection in 2013 and was named to the All-Tournament Team while also earning a spot on the MAAC All-Academic Team.

After starting 2013 with a 1-7 mark, Marist finished the season with a record of 9-10. The Red Foxes finished in the MAAC Championship finals where they fell 10-9 to the three-time defending MAAC Champion Canisius.
