DES MOINES, Iowa – Three members of the Marist track & field teams – rising sophomores Ryan Colabella (Hauppauge, N.Y.), John Lee (Wading River, N.Y.) and Kristen Traub (Wayne, N.J.) – will be competing in the United State Track & Field Junior National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, beginning on Friday.
Colabella and Lee will be competing in the 10,000-meter run, which will take place on Friday at 10 p.m. EDT. Traub will run a 1,500-meter heat at 2:10 p.m. EDT on Friday. If she qualifies for the final in the event, she will run again at 3:02 p.m. EDT Saturday.
The Marist track & field program has a strong tradition of runners qualifying for junior nationals. The Red Foxes have at least one participant in the event each of the last six years, and have had 15 qualifiers in this span. In all, Marist has had 22 competitors in junior nationals in program history.
Colabella was Marist’s third-highest finisher (19th overall) at the MAAC Cross Country Championships before red-shirting in track. Lee placed in the top 10 in both the MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 3,000 meters, and the MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 10,000 meters. Traub enjoyed a strong season in both cross country and track. She earned All-MAAC honors in cross country after finishing ninth at the conference championships, and was named MAAC Indoor Performer of the Week on Jan. 22.
