POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist head men’s basketball coach Jeff Bower has announced the signing of Nick Colletta to a National Letter of Intent. Colletta will join the Red Foxes as a true freshman for the 2013-14 season. He is the first recruit to sign a National Letter of Intent in Bower’s tenure.

Colletta was named one of the top sophomores in the state of California in the 2010-11 season, when he averaged 24.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. That year, he was named All-CIF Division 2A First Team, earned MVP honors of the Winter Tip-Off Classic after scoring 30 points in the championship game, and had a career-best 38 points in a game. Colletta missed much of his junior season and all of his senior season due to a back injury, but has returned to competition this spring.
Colletta is a product of Glendora High School, which ranks in the top five percent of the country’s most academically successful high schools. Glendora produced former NBA players Casey Jacobsen (five-year NBA career, currently playing in Germany) and Tracy Murray (11-year NBA career).
At the age of six, Colletta earned a First Degree Black Belt in karate. His karate prowess earned him a spot on “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” television show.
Bower on Colletta: “We’re happy to add Nick Colletta to our program. He’s the type of young man that has a serious approach to basketball and academics. His skills fit nicely with our returning players and will complement their strengths. He has the profile of success that will allow him to make an extremely positive contribution to the entire Marist College community.”
