Griffin, Marthy Medal On Final Day Of MAAC Championships
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Graduate student William Griffin (Columbia, Conn.) and sophomore David Marthy (Latham, N.Y.) placed third in their events to lead the Marist men’s outdoor track & field team on the final day of the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, held Sunday at Rider University.
Marthy turned in a personal-best time of 1:53.44 to earn a third-place finish in the 800 meters. Griffin placed third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:43.46.
Freshman Alex Cunningham (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and junior Jesse Aprile (Yorktown, N.Y.) were the other individuals who earned scoring positions for the Red Foxes, which came in the 110-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash, respectively.
Senior Arquimedes DelaCruz (Wantagh, N.Y.) completed a grueling stretch with a seventh-place finish in the 5,000 meters. In a span of less than 24 hours, DelaCruz ran a total of 18,000 meters by competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 10,000-meter run on Saturday, and Sunday’s 5,000-meter run.
As a team, Marist finished fifth with 39.5 points.
