POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Junior Jesse Aprile sprinted his way into the record books on Friday night at Vassar College. Competing at the Matthew Vassar Twilight Meet in Poughkeepsie, Aprile took first place in the 100-meter dash in 11.08 seconds. The time beat the previous school record of 11.09, which was set in 1999.

“Jesse ran a remarkable race from start to finish and this was a nice bounce-back effort for him since he has been battling injury issues,’’ Marist Director of Track Pete Colaizzo said. “We are hoping he can use this as momentum for a solid MAAC meet this weekend.’’ In the same event, teammate Darren Bushey was third in 11.53 seconds.

It was an evening of personal-best performances for the Red Foxes. In the 10,000-meter run, freshman Omar Perez improved on his previous best by a whopping 31 seconds and took first place in 33:13.09. Teammate Doug Ainscow was second in 33:47.44, also a personal-best performance. Racing for the final time in the red and white, senior Will Schanz was third in the event in 33:56.56.

In the 1,500-meter run, Kyle Hannafin (4:15.34), Pat Deedy (4:18.14) and Ricky Willi (4:25.08) all notched personal-best times. And in the 400-meter dash, junior Connor Dodge took top honors in a season-best time of 53.17.

The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday and Sunday at the MAAC Championships at Rider University.
