POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Beginning on Friday, May 3, the Marist Women’s Lacrosse team will participate in semifinal action at the 2013 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship against Fairfield at 7 p.m. with the hopes of moving on to play on Sunday for the program’s third MAAC Title and first since 2010. Finding success during the second half of the season, the Red Foxes come in with seven wins over their last nine games.

Marist in the MAAC Championships: During the careers of this year’s five-athlete senior class, Ashley Casiano, Jessica Irvine, Laura Lucchesi, Ashley Miller and Amanda Tuck, the Red Foxes have qualified for and played in three MAAC Championships. As freshmen in 2010, the current seniors came away victorious 9-7 over Fairfield in the title game to earn Marist’s first-ever automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. During that title run, Casiano went 2-0 in goal on her way to earning a spot on the MAAC All-Tournament Team.

Marist versus the 2013 Field: In regular season action against 2013 MAAC Championship field, the Red Foxes went 1-2 with a decisive win over Siena, while suffering close defeats to both Fairfield and Canisius.

April 3 at Fairfield, L, 9-8: In a contest where Fairfield twice had four-goal leads, Marist fought hard throughout and would eventually knot the game at 8-8 before losing on a heart-breaking last second goal. Senior Ashley Miller and freshman Allison Gionta led Marist’s offensive effort with three points each, while sophomore Christine Astarita and senior Jessica Irvine led a stout defense with five combined turnovers.

April 6 at Siena, W, 13-4: After its previous loss to Fairfield, Marist came out on a mission and controlled the scoreboard versus the host Siena Saints from the opening draw through the final buzzer. After Kirsten Viscount found the back of the net 84 seconds into the game, the Red Foxes would roll on their way to a 13-4 victory over the Saints.

Jamie Romano led three Red Foxes with hat tricks as the junior finished with four goals. Senior Ashley Miller and Viscount each accounted for three goals each. Junior Tierney Larson tied Marist’s single-season record with a team-high three assists on the day.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Casiano led a stalwart defensive effort with 12 saves and three ground balls.

April 27 at Canisius, L, 16-13: The Marist women’s lacrosse team suffered a 16-13 loss in its regular-season finale at Canisius on this past Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Junior Jamie Romano led Marist with six goals. Junior Tierney Larson added a goal and four assists. Freshman Allison Gionta and sophomore Kirsten Viscount each had two goals and an assist.

With her four helpers, Larson set the MAAC record for most assists in a single-season; the previous record was 47 set by Canisius' Carly Quinn.

Red Fox Stat Rankings in the MAAC: At the conclusion of the regular season, seven Red Foxes were ranked amongst the conference’s best in a variety of statistical categories.
