BUFFALO – The Marist women’s lacrosse team suffered a 16-13 loss in its regular-season finale at Canisius on Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex. The Red Foxes will be the number three seed in next week’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, and will open tournament play against second-seeded Fairfield on Friday at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium.

Junior Jamie Romano (Kings Park, N.Y.) led Marist with six goals. Junior Tierney Larson (Fairfield, Conn.) added a goal and four assists. Freshman Allison Gionta (Eastport, N.Y.) and sophomore Kirsten Viscount (Smithtown, N.Y.) each had two goals and an assist.

With her four helpers, Larson set the MAAC record for most assists in a single-season; the previous record was 47 set by Canisius' Carly Quinn.

Marist scored the first three goals of the contest, but the Golden Griffins scored five unanswered goals in the final 6:32 of the first half to take an 11-5 halftime lead. Canisius led by seven on two different occasions in the second half, but the Red Foxes fought back with four goals over the final 3:09.
