Women's Crew's Second Varsity Eight Boat Named All-MAAC
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Marist women’s crew team had its Second Varsity Eight boat earn postseason All-MAAC Rowing Awards at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Awards Banquet Friday night. All awards were voted on by the league’s head coaches.
The Second Varsity Eight squad was named the best in the conference after earning two Boat of the Week honors during the season. It was first recognized for its big win at the Sacred Heart Invitational, finishing 12 seconds ahead of the boat from Robert Morris and more than 20 seconds ahead of Fairfield and a minute ahead of Iona. Then, at the Knecht Cup race, the boat raced to a time of 7:29.37, this time finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of Fairfield. The Marist boat consists of coxswain Erica Bogdan as well as rowers Brenna Logue, Kira Melendez, Brittany Morrisey, Megan Ladoceur, Annie Devorak, Nora Culhane, Danielle Villa and Samantha Blau.
19 Red Foxes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Samantha Blau, Kelsey Butta, Samantha Cillo, Jenn DeLisle, Annie Devorak, Theresa Fillippini, Jenny Flanagan, Jennifer Guzzardi, Elizabeth Hehir, Amanda Khoury, Stephanie Moriarty, Taylor Mullaney, Kimberly Orzech, Meaghan Perry, Andrew Rosenstein, Flavia Siclovan, Danielle Villa and Kristin Wilson were all recognized for their achievements in the classroom.
Marist will compete in the 2013 MAAC Championships on Saturday. The Red Foxes will look to end a streak of runner-up finished and earn the conference’s first automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
