EDISON, N.J. – Sophomore pitcher Janine Lalli (Eastchester, N.Y.) was honored by the MAAC in the conference’s weekly award announcement on Monday as the Pitcher of the Week. The conference’s top pitcher for the second time this second, she was recognized for her efforts in the circle versus Lafayette and Niagara.
Lalli led Marist’s pitching effort for the week as she hurled the Red Foxes’ fifth shutout of the season with a career-best one hit performance at home versus Lafayette on April 10. After Wednesday’s stellar outing, she came back on the weekend in MAAC play with an important save of Emily Osterhaus’ Game One start at Niagara by striking out the first two Purple Eagles that she saw. In Game Two, Lalli got the call to start and held Niagara hitless until the fourth inning. For the week, Lalli threw 13.2 innings and allowed just three earned runs on nine hits for a 1.54 ERA, while striking out seven batters and posting a 1-1 record with a save.
This honor is the third of Lalli’s career, as she earned a Pitcher of the Week award nod on March 4, 2013 and a Rookie of the Week honor in 2012.
During the 2013 season, the Marist softball team has garnered seven weekly awards as Lalli is joined by Emily Osterhaus, a three-time winner, Melanie White (Pitcher of the Week, 3/18) and Kyrsten Van Natta (Rookie of the Week, 3/5).
Marist (15-17, 4-2 MAAC) will be back in action on Tuesday, April 16 with a doubleheader matchup on the road versus Columbia; Game One is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
