POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist junior right-hander Kevin McCarthy (Malverne, N.Y.) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pitcher of the Week on Monday. It is the first weekly honor of McCarthy’s career.

McCarthy saved both games in Marist's doubleheader sweep of Fairfield on Saturday. He went two innings in game one, and 1.1 innings in game two. McCarthy faced a total of 11 batters in both games, and retired 10 of them. In 3.1 innings, he allowed just one hit, zero runs and zero walks while recording five strikeouts. He entered the first game with the tying run at the plate, and the second game with the tying run at second and go-ahead run at first.

On the season, McCarthy is 2-2 with a 4.47 ERA and team-leading five saves. He leads Marist with 13 appearances, with eight coming in relief. He has two complete games, and has struck out 36 in 44.1 innings.

This is the fifth time a Red Fox has earned a MAAC weekly award this season. Senior right-hander Brett Houseal (Landisville, Pa.) was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week on both March 18 and April 1. Freshmen Matt Pagano (Cranston, R.I.) and Matt Belitz (Ossining, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Week honors on Feb. 25 and March 11, respectively.

Marist is now 18-12-1 overall and 9-3 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes return to action on Tuesday, when they host Binghamton in a non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
