Women's Lacrosse Looks To Earn Second MAAC Home Win Of 2013 Vs. Manhattan

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – On Wednesday, April 10, the Marist women’s lacrosse (5-8, 2-1 MAAC) team will host Manhattan (3-9, 0-2 MAAC) at Tenney Stadium in a MAAC conference bout at 4 p.m. The Red Foxes will be looking to build momentum after getting a decisive win against Siena on April 6. The Jaspers are currently on a four-game losing streak and winless in MAAC play

RED FOXES & JASPERS: The Red Foxes and Jaspers faced off last April 4 in Riverdale and played an exciting game in which Manhattan came from behind late to earn the 13-12 victory. Prior to last year’s result, Marist had won four of the prior five meetings by a 10.5 goal average margin of victory.

Overall, the schools have met 18 times with Manhattan holding a 10-8 all-time advantage.

SCOUTING MANHATTAN: A young squad, with 14 underclassmen, the Jaspers have struggled get consistant play during the first 12 games of 2013. With an overall record of 3-9, the Jaspers went on a two-game winning streak against Howard on March 17 and against Delaware State on March 23, but have not won since.

Offensively, the Jaspers are led by Carly Eskenazi who has posted a team-high 15 goals and 18 total points on the season. Donna Jo DiNorcia (10g-8a), Kelsey Rehain (10g-8a), Megan Yarusso (10g-7a) and Stefanie Ranagan (13g-2a) joins Eskenazi as players with at least 15 points on the season.

Defensively, Amy Branchini and Christine Fiorinelli lead the team with a combined 20 caused turnovers and 59 ground balls. In goal, Fiorinelli has seen all of the playing time and has posted a 11.45 goals against average and a .464 save percentage.

As a team, the Jaspers score 8.73 goals per game, while allowing 11.45.

LAST TIME OUT: The Red Foxes gained back their positive momentum and got a dominate 13-4 victory against Siena on April 6. Marist started the game with a sense of urgency by going a 7-2 run against Siena. Their four goal defensive output was the lowest since April 17, 2009 versus Niagara at home.

Jamie Romano led three Red Foxes with hat tricks as the junior finished with four goals. Senior Ashley Miller and Kirsten Viscount each accounted for three goals each. Junior Tierney Larson tied Marist’s single-season record with a team-high three assists on the day.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Casiano led a stalwart defensive effort with 12 saves and three ground balls.
