EDISON, N.J. – Marist freshman Fredrik Bjerke (Oslo, Norway) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Tuesday. The award recognizes his efforts in the Red Foxes 7-0 victory over Hofstra on Monday.
Bjerke went 2-0 in Marist's home-opener, easily cruising to victories in both singles and doubles. Playing in the fourth singles' position, Bjerke rolled over his opponent with a 6-1, 6-2 decision. In doubles, Bjerke teamed with fellow Norwegian Trym Nagelstad (Oslo, Norway) in the top position to win easily by an 8-4 score.
It is the first career weekly award for Bjerke and third of the season for the Red Foxes. Juniors Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) and Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) have each earned the same honor.
Marist (7-2) hits the road for a neutral match on Friday. The Red Foxes will play Xavier in the Bronx. They will return home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match against Boston University.
