Women's Lacrosse to Host Niagara in Conference Opener On Saturday at 3 p.m.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – On Saturday, March 30, the Marist women’s lacrosse (3-7, 0-0 MAAC) team will host Niagara (4-6, 0-0 MAAC) in a 3:00 p.m. MAAC conference game. Both teams will be playing in their first conference matchups as they look continue their respective winning streaks. The Red Foxes are coming off wins against Stetson and Oregon, while the Purple Eagles have won four of their last five games.

RED FOXES & PURPLE EAGLES: Marist has gone undefeated in the last five years against Niagara, outscoring the Purple Eagles 89-29. Last year, the Red Foxes defeated Niagara 15-5 on their way to clinching the #3 seed in the MAAC Championship. Then senior Ariel Kramer achieved a program record-tying eight goal effort, as Marist cruised to its third MAAC victory of the regular season.

Overall, Marist is 11-7 all-time versus Niagara with nine straight victories dating back to 2004.

SCOUTING NIAGARA:  Coming into Saturday’s game with a 4-6 record, the Purple Eagles have struggled on the road this year posting a 1-5 away mark. Junior midfielder Maria Battista leads the Purple Eagles with 15 goals this season, while sophomore midfielder Carrie-Jo Farrugia leads the team with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists. Junior goalie Paige Sasser has played in all ten games this season, posting a .414 save percentage with 12.47 goals against average.

LAST TIME OUT: On Sunday, March 24, Marist earned its first-ever win over Oregon by a 9-5 margin. Senior Amanda Tuck led the offense with three goals, while her classmate Ashley Casiano made a game-high eight saves and allowed a season-low five goals in net for the Red Foxes.

For the game, Oregon outshot Marist 18-16, with a 13-12 advantage in shots on goal. The Red Foxes earned the important category win of draw controls with a 10-6 margin. Jamie Romano secured a game-high five draw controls for Marist.
