POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women’s lacrosse team will look for its second straight non-conference victory on Sunday when the Red Foxes welcome the Oregon Ducks to Tenney Stadium for a 2 p.m. matchup.
Last Time Out … The Red Foxes exploded offensively in the concluding game of its Florida road trip on Thursday evening by notching a 21-8 victory at Stetson. Marist scored early and often against the Dolphins as three players, Jamie Romano, Amanda Tuck and Ashley Miller notched hat tricks and Tierney Larson registered seven total points on the strength on five assists.
For the game, Marist outshot Stetson 36-15 and won 24 of 31 draws. Romano and Tuck tied for the team-high with five draw controls.
21 goals were the most scored by a Red Fox team in four years since a March 20, 2009 matchup at Presbyterian concluded with a 21-5 score.
With her five assists, Larson is in sole possession of the fifth-most helpers in a single season at Marist with 21.
Red Foxes & Ducks … Marist and Oregon faced off for the first time in six years, last March when the Red Foxes travelled out west. Playing on March 16, Marist was defeated by Oregon with a final score of 17-6. An early run of goals in the first half by the Ducks proved too much to overcome for the Red Foxes, who equaled Oregon's offensive output in the second half, 5-5.
The Ducks manufactured an 11-0 first half goal run to send the game into halftime at 12-1. A leading factor in Oregon's run was their goalkeeper Caroline Federighi, who turned aside six Red Fox shots on goal in the first period.
Jamie Romano led Marist offensively with four points on three goals and an assist in the game.
All-time, the Ducks are 3-0 versus the Red Foxes.
Scouting Oregon … The Ducks come into Sunday’s contest with a 4-3 overall record following a 12-10 setback versus San Diego State on Friday in Eugene. This is Oregon’s first road game of the season after opening with seven straight home contests.
