Water Polo Splits Two Games On Saturday; Defeats Gannon, Falls To Hartwick
ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Marist water polo team split a pair of games on Saturday, defeating Gannon 16-7 before falling to Hartwick 15-7. Both games were played at Hartwick.
In their first game against Gannon, Marist (7-5) jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter and 8-1 by halftime. Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.) scored four goals and three assists to lead the offense while Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) and Anna-Lena Hathaway (Pasadena, Calif.) each had three goals. Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.), Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) and Ellie Hoffman (Pasadena, Calif.) all found the back of the net twice. Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.) made six steals and Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) had four steals. Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa) played the first half and recorded four saves while also making two steals and two assists. Skyler Henry (San Diego, Calif.) played the third quarter in goal and made four saves and two steals while Elise Humphries (Anaheim, Calif.) made two saves in the fourth quarter.
Against Hartwick in the second game, the hosts used a seven-goal third quarter to pull away from the Red Foxes. Hathaway scored twice and added two assists while making six steals defensively. Levien also had two goals and an assist and Crabtree scored once and assisted on two others. Jessica Hamby and Rinker both scored one goal apiece. Thomas played the entire game in goal, making 10 saves and two steals. She also added her third assist of the day.
Marist next will head back out for its second trip to the west coast. The Red Foxes will kick off their spring break trip at the Lancer Invite, hosted by California Baptist. Marist will play the host Lancers and George Washington on Friday before taking on Redlands and Azusa Pacific on Saturday.
