EDISON, N.J. - Junior Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) of the Marist men's tennis team has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week, as announced the conference on Tuesday.
Klassen was perfect in Marist's 4-3 victory over its Hudson Valley rival Army on Sunday, winning both his singles' and doubles' matches. Pairing with his two-year partner Billy Bishop (Houston, Texas), Klassen won at the second doubles' position by an 8-5 score. With Bishop, Klassen has now won seven doubles' matches this season. Moving up to the second singles' slot, Klassen continued his dominating 2012-13 campaign, winning easily with a 6-0, 7-5 score. He is now 17-5 on the year in singles' play, including 5-2 so far this spring.
It is the first weekly award of the season for the Red Foxes and second of Klassen's career. He was also named the Player of the Week on April 17 of last season.
Marist will play next weekend at the Yale 3-Way Tournament. On Saturday, the Red Foxes will take on Stony Brook and the host Bulldogs in two dual matches. They will also play Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday to complete the weekend.
