POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - In preparation for the upcoming 2013 season, seniors Danielle Koltz (Chenango Bridge, N.Y.) and Emily Osterhaus (Suwanee, Ga.) have been chosen to serve as team captains for the Marist Softball team.
"Dani and Emily have been an integral part of the Marist program during their four years. After a 10-win freshman campaign, they have put in the hard work and long hours necessary to turn our program around; they are strong leaders, who know what it takes to complete the job at hand" said Head Coach Joe Ausanio.
A 2012 All-MAAC selection, Koltz comes into her senior year as the team's leading active home run hitter with 19 in her career. A solid producer over her first two years as a Red Fox, she broke through as a junior last season with career-best marks of a .314 batting average, eight home runs and 39 RBIs. A four-year starter, Koltz has been a versatile member of the program, seeing time at positions throughout the infield, as well as in the circle as a freshman.
Osterhaus begins her final campaign with the Red Foxes as one of the program's most decorated pitchers. A honoree on the All-MAAC Second Team, All-Tournament and All-Academic Team during her first three years as a Red Fox, she has been a consistent presence in the circle as Marist's number one pitcher. Coming into the 2013 season, she ranks fifth all-time in wins, fourth in complete games, fifth in strikeouts and sixth in innings pitched.
The Red Foxes are in the midst of their final preseason preparation as they will kick off their regular season this weekend, March 2-3 in Norfolk, Va. with four games at the Spartan Classic.
