EDISON, N.J. - Following a record-setting performance for the Marist men's basketball team this past Saturday in its BracketBuster matchup versus VMI, sophomore Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) was recognized as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week.
The sophomore wing recorded career-highs in points with 30 and rebounds with 16, while tying a career-high with five steals in Marist's dominant 112-74 win. He augmented those outstanding numbers by recording six assists, one block and shooting 70.6 percent (12-17) from the field, as well. That complete statline of 30 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and five steals is a first in Division 1 competition since the 1996-97 season.
In a day with 141 total Division 1 games, Lewis' individual totals ranked amongst the top 15 performances on Saturday. His point total was 13th overall, rebounds third and steals tied for first in the nation.
This is the fifth career MAAC weekly honor for Lewis and second Player of the Week award of the 2012-13 season. For the men's program this is its third overall honor of the season as Adam Kemp was a recipient of Player of the Week accolades on Feb. 11.
Lewis and the Red Foxes will close out their regular season this weekend with a pair of MAAC games. A 7 p.m. road matchup at Siena on Friday, March 1 begins the slate before the team hosts Fairfield for a Senior Day contest on Sunday, March 3, that will be broadcast live on ESPN3 at 2 p.m.
