On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Marist women's lacrosse team will match up against Vermont at 1:00 p.m in a non-conference game. The women's lacrosse team is looking to get their first win of the season.
RED FOXES & CATAMOUNTS ... Marist and Vermont have met five times prior to Saturday with games scattered throughout the past 11 years. Overall, the Catamounts have a 4-1 lead in the series with three consecutive wins. The last time Marist played Vermont was on March 19, 2011 when the host Red Foxes lost by a score of 15-8. In a game filled with five three-goal or more scoring streaks, the Red Foxes fell victim to Vermont's fast start and success in free-position opportunities.
SCOUTING VERMONT ... Vermont (0-1) has started its season with a loss on the road on Feb. 16 to Colgate 13-9. During the game sophomore Jessica Roach scored a team-high with three goals while junior Samantha Gallerani followed with two goals. Another player to watch for Vermont is junior Sydney Mas, who has scored 108 career goals. Coming into the season, the Catamounts were chosen fifth in the 2013 America East Preseason Coaches Poll.
LAST TIME OUT ... The Marist women's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought home opener to Colgate on a cold, wet Tuesday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. After finding themselves in an 8-3 deficit at the half, the Red Foxes came back to outscore the Raiders 9-8 in the second period. Senior Ashley Miller led the Red Foxes with four goals, while junior Tierney Larson aided the attack with a career-high five points on two goals and three assists.
